What Is MSRP?

What Is MSRP? - Slippd

Shopping for a car but don't understand what MSRP is? Any retail product can have an MSRP, but the term is most commonly used with automobiles. Here's the breakdown.

What Is MSRP For Car's?

MSRP is an acronym for "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price". As the name implies, the MSRP is the price a manufacturer suggests a dealer sell the vehicle for and is the price located on the vehicle's window sticker. This price is only a suggestion and a dealer can sell the vehicle for a higher or lower price.

Is Sticker Price Different Than MSRP?

Sticker Price and MSRP both refer to the same thing, the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. "Sticker Price" is simply just another phrase for MSRP.

Is MSRP/Sticker Price The Price You Pay?

MSRP isn't always the price you pay. For a new vehicle, you'll likely be paying this price. To answer the common question, "Can I pay below MSRP?", yes, you can. Most dealers have wiggle room, and just like with all sales, negotiation plays a big role. One reason for this might be they're trying to get rid of a vehicle that has been sitting on the lot for a few weeks. The MSRP doesn't apply to used vehicles because the price of a car drops the moment it is purchased and driven off the lot.

Can a Dealer Charge Over MSRP?

Simply put, yes they can. Remember, the MSRP is only a suggestion. Dealers are inclined to raise the price over MSRP when the demand for the vehicle is higher than the supply. This is more likely to happen when a dealer is in possession of a popular vehicle.

Is The Invoice Price Different From MSRP?

Yes, the invoice price is the price the dealer paid the manufacturer for the vehicle. The invoice price is less than the MSRP which allows the manufacturer to profit, the middle man to profit, and the dealer to profit off the final sale, the MSRP.
